President's Report Patron's of St. Columban Foundation - March 30, 2016

I am pleased to present the Presidentís report highlighting the activities of the Foundation since our last annual meeting on March 18, 2015 and outlining our plans for 2016.

The past year has been another successful year for the Patrons of St. Columban Foundation as we were able to raise $45,683.78 for the restoration work on our historic St. Columbanís Church. We have been able to do this because of the generosity of our parishioners at St. Columbanís and other friends in the community who have responded to our four fundraising activities in 2015, namely, Foundation Sunday, chicken dinner, fall concert with the Brigadoons, and Christmas Remembrances. In 2015, the Foundation provided $50,000 to pay off the loan to the diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall for the capital work done on the church steeple in 2012.

I, especially, want to thank the members of the Foundation, Albert Laing, Marion Tobin, Jane Anderson, Donna Villemaire, Jake Villemaire, Janet Surgeson, Sean Adams, and Father Ernest for their commitment and hard work. I also want to thank Anne Gauthier, President of the Parish Finance Council, for her valuable input and assistance at our Foundation meetings and activities and Pat Vincelli for his continued assistance.

During the past ten years, the Foundation has been able to raise over $607,000 for the stabilization and restoration of St. Columbanís Church. While much work has been done in recent years on essential capital repairs, there is still more work to be done. Money raised by the Foundation this year will be spent on capital projects requested by the Parish Financial Council. In the near future, the east and west stone walls of the body of church and the sanctuary need to be repointed as money becomes available.

This year we will hold Foundation Sunday weekend with a short information talk at the masses on the April 30-May 1 weekend and the envelope collection on the following May7-8 weekend. We are holding a chicken fundraising dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 on Sunday April 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We hope that you will be able to attend. We plan to organize another concert in the church in September and we will also do our ďRemembering our Loved Ones at ChristmasĒ campaign on the weekend of December 17-18.

As you can see, 2016 is another busy year for the Foundation. I am hopeful that with the continued support of our parishioners at St. Columbanís and the community at large, we and the Parish Finance Council will succeed in our work to preserve and restore our beautiful, historic place of worship for years to come. Thank you.
